Kirigami is a variation of origami where the artist is allowed to make small cuts in the paper (from Japanese "kiru" = to cut, "kami" = paper). In origami, papercutting is frowned upon by the majority of modern folders, as techniques have advanced enough to make cutting unnecessary for a skilled folder.

My boyfriend and also a friend of my daughter are really into origami. I wonder if they'd like to try their hand at kirigami? I'm going to pass this along to them! It's such a unique artform!
