Science Cake

Beaker Flask Cake

For my chemistry major son.
inverted.  I then cut it to taper and added
2 cupcakes on a lollipop stick stick into the middle.
Once everything was lined up I added a thin crumb
coat of frosting then added the white fondant.
The blue was painted on using food coloring and
small paint brush.  The bubbling over was malted
balls dipped into melted frosting.
This was definitely one of my more
creative cakes I've made!

Cake Anyone?

Here's a few cakes I made recently for friends...

This giant cupcake candy cake will mostly
give you chocolate overload with the base
of it covered in KitKat bars and the top
covered with M&Ms! It's one heavy cake!

This mini girly-girl mini cake is the first time
I've worked with fondant...its kind of like
working with paper clay where you have
to work quickly before it dries out!

Mini Cake

I just remembered it was safe to share this mini cake
photo with you that I made for a friend's birthday.
I want to stress that I am not a cake decorator
whatsoever I just wing it. I have found some
helpful tools as I go along.  One of them is an
icing sculpting set my hubby gave me for my
birthday. That's what I used to create the
ridges around main part of the cake.

To bake my cake I used an idea I borrowed from
pinterest where you bake mini cakes using food
cans you've saved.  For this cake I used a large
canned pear can and sprayed the inside with Pam
cooking spray and then filled it 3/4 the way full.

For the flavoring I used packets of crystal light
raspberry pink lemonade to flavor both the white
cake mix and the frosting.

Spring Chickies Cake

Spring Chickies Cake
I made this cake for a friend's sister who raises and loves chickens. Its actually a peach flavored cake with peach flavored frosting.  The chickies are cake balls/pops (You can click HERE to view my other cake pops). For the base of the cake I used a round layer cake and the smaller center is half of my wilton's giant cupcake pan.

Easter Basket Cake

Easter Basket Cake
I made this from using just the base of my
Wilton's giant cupcake pan.  I am by no means a
cake decorator and my purpose for sharing my
cakes is to show you that don't have to be.

After the base baked and cooled I  I sliced off the top
to make it level and then scooped out about
1/4"- 1/2" of cake evenly around the inside.

I was going to try my hand at frosting it by using
a basket weaving design but was afraid I'd mess
it up so instead I came across a site that showed
how to make it look like basket weaving using
a fork .  They used chocolate ganache where as
I just used regular frosting.  I know its not as neat
as the regular basket weave design I think it works
just fine.  I put a thin layer of frosting inside the
top and around the opening of the cake edge
then used a large a  large star decorating tip
around the top and bottom of the cake.

Next I looked up how to color coconut to
make the grass for my easter basket cake.
I used two different colors of green...regular food
coloring green and McCormick's Neon Green Food
Coloring. I liked the variety of greens I got by
doing this. I then sprinkled my "grass" into the
center of the cake.
Next I added some of the Easter Egg Cake Pops
I made the day before. I also added some scrapbook
paper flowers I stuck together with frosting and added
pink candies for the center.

Giant Cupcake for a friend

I just finished another giant cupcake for a friend. I don't by any means claim to be a cake decorator, in fact I have a lot of admiration for cake decorators its a lot harder then it looks! With that being said I am finally figuring out my own way of decorating and have found what works and what does NOT work LOL
I can't sing the praises of Wilton's giant cupcake pan enough I know your probably tired of me saying it, but I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this cake pan! I know there's another brand that's the new silicone rubber type and it comes in two pieces, but I think I prefer my metal pan because it is connected and is sturdy! I have visions of me picking up the rubber one and  collapsing and spilling or the cake gets stuck in it...yeah I know it's suppose to pop-out, but I tried some of those small silicone cupcake baking cups and I did not have good luck with them perhaps there's some hidden secret I'm not privy to LOL

You can click HERE to see some of my
other Giant Cupcakes hopefully its proof
I've gotten better LOL

Gothic Skull Birthday Theme

Today I got my creative on baking a black cake
in my Wilton Giant Cupcake Pan!  I know I've said
it before but I just love this pan I have used the heck
out of it in the year that I've had it!
Yum doesn't that look tasty! It actually was a delicious
mocha flavored with black paste food coloring added.

Here's the finished product! The skulls are actually plastic
toy skulls that I happened to have and I then used some
Krylon silver leafing paint to  help pop the design in
the skulls. I also used the leafing paint on the
candle since it was blue and white stripped and
needed to match! I had whole black, white and silver
theme going on.

Next I made a flocked zebra skull crown to go with the cake
and the previously posted Gothic Sweet 16 ATB
I made as a gift.
All in honor of my friend
Mz Brattypants'
birthday!

White Chocolate Cupcakes

I'd forgotten to post this pic of the cupcakes I made on Valentine's Day for my family.  Since I've made a decision to eat healthy I was good and didn't have one-Sweets aren't my big downfall so it wasn't too hard of a decision.  I used a spice cake mix since that's what I had on hand, and then melted white candy chocolate I  had left over from my Christmas baking and dipped the tops of the cupcakes into the melted chocolate. Judging by how fast they were eaten I'd say they were a big hit!  The cool thing I liked about using the chocolate is that I could stack them without having to worry about frosting :-)
