Gothic Skull Birthday Theme

Today I got my creative on baking a black cake

 in my Wilton Giant Cupcake Pan!  I know I've said 

it before but I just love this pan I have used the heck 

out of it in the year that I've had it! 

Yum doesn't that look tasty! It actually was a delicious 

mocha flavored with black paste food coloring added.

Here's the finished product! The skulls are actually plastic 

toy skulls that I happened to have and I then used some  

Krylon silver leafing paint to  help pop the design in 

the skulls. I also used the leafing paint on the 

candle since it was blue and white stripped and 

needed to match! I had whole black, white and silver 

theme going on. 

Next I made a flocked zebra skull crown to go with the cake

and the previously posted Gothic Sweet 16 ATB  

I made as a gift.

 I previously posted a crown tutorial (Click HERE) and gave the crown to my niece and she promptly went home and made 2 of her own for friend's birthdays using scrapbook and watercolor paper. See above and below images, didn't she do an awesome job!

Early Bird Birthday Crown Tutorial

Here's an Early bird birthday crown I made for my niece before she went back to college at Notre Dame.  Since this is her 21st  birthday we wanted  to celebrate with her before she left, so my other niece and I made her this crown.

Crown Tutorial

Step 1: Adhere newspaper to canvas or watercolor paper using matte medium or semi gloss.	Step 2: Dry with the heat gun.
Step 3: Using acrylic paint stamp with your chose of stamp.	Step 4:  Continue to add more layers by stamping over previous stamped image using a different stamp and paint/ink color.
Step 5: Thoroughly dry acrylic paint with the heat gun, then spray with Margarita  Magenta Color Mists	Step 6: BEFORE Color Mist is dry sprinkle with extra fine iridescent glitter dust (glitter dust will adhere to anything wet).  Again dry with heat gun.
Step 7: Choose a crown template or make your own template.	Step 8: Trace crown template onto backside of the newsprint covered paper.  Make sure you move the template down and continue to trace until paper is filled (you may need to cut 2 depending on head size). Then cut out.

Finishing Your Crown

Embellish your crown adding paper flowers, letters, stickers, buttons, charms etc.  Punch a hole on each end add ribbon through each hole and tie ends together.

Crowns, Casts and Lunchboxes!

Many thanks to all of you who take the time to visit my blog and even leave a comment I appreciate it. I've had some email issues and haven't been able to respond to all comments, but I do thank you!

Here's some goodies to share now that my friends Kris and Christy have celebrated their birthdays. Below are the crowns I made for each of them...I have to admit I'm getting kind of addicted to making them! I started with a plastic princess crown and added springs of leaves and beads with the hot glue gun and covered the side pieces that fit on the head with ribbon, the trick is to keep layering until it's as full as you want.

No Queen or Art Diva is complete without her crown!

Here's a classic case of "I knew I'd find a use for it one day" Syndrome that most of us collectors er...I mean Altered Artists suffer from. I picked up an old black lunch box about 4 years ago at an estate sale thinking what a great piece it would be to alter some day and up it went on my shelf waiting for just the right project which ended up being a purse for Kris for her birthday. I just love how it turned out. This was a collaborated effort with another friend who lined the inside and made a wonderful mermaid doll to go inside. After the outside was finished I sealed it with PYMII which worked great!

I must confess I've always had a secret desire to alter some body's cast and today I got to do just that! My sister let me add some bling to her basic black cast.

At least it adds a little fun to an otherwise boring cast :-)
