Valentine Card & Heart Shaped Cupcakes

this freebie Valentine Card

Heart Shaped Cupcakes
I gleamed this idea from where else, but Pinterest.
You can find just about anything on there. I've
been just waiting for a chance to try it out.  It said
you could use marbles or foil and since I didn't have
any marbles I opted for foil.
It seemed to work just fine rolling a small ball of foil
up to keep the liner indented to look like a heart.
I probably could have filled them a little fuller, but I
was afraid if they rose up too much they'd loose
their heart shape.

Here's the Pièce de résistance

I also made some mini cupcakes with the remaining
 cake batter.

Keep Calm and eat a cupcake!

When all else fails...

Yesterday I experimented with making a red velvet cake from scratch for my hubby.  I baked it in a coffee cup and served it that way. It was a some what dense cake but it was tasty.

Here's the recipe I used:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter flavored shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 small box of chocolate pudding
  • 1/2 ounce red food coloring (add as much as you feel you need)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
  •

Directions

  1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour three 10 inch round pans.
  2. Cream 1/2 cup of shortening, 1 1/2 cups of white sugar, eggs, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract,  in a large bowl. Make a paste of small amount of pudding powder and food coloring in a small bowl and add to shortening mixture. Pour in 2 1/2 cups flour alternately with the milk, mixing until just incorporated. Mix 1 teaspoon of salt, baking soda, and vinegar in a small bowl, and while fizzing fold into the batter; mixing just enough to evenly combine. Pour the batter into prepared pan.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing to cool completely on a wire rack. Frost as desired.

Happy Baking!

From Cupcakes to Doodling!

I love sharing fun sites I come across! The first one is a fun cupcake site....they also have a cupcake challenge going on so stop by and take a peek.  I had hoped to take the challenge this week, but our weather turned to scorching hot burning in hell weather so turning the oven on isn't an option right now! When it cools down again I am definitely going to get my cupcake creativity on!
Are these not adorable!?

The next site I found is an easy how-to-draw site so for those of you who think you can't draw take a peek and try again. Most times you just need a basic idea and a little practice which I've found out with all my whimsical drawings  that I've done over the past year.  As I've mentioned in previous posts I always carry in my purse a mechanical pencil, black fine tip pen and a mini sketchbook .  I will practice drawing or doodling when I'm waiting somewhere.
