to create a party collage sheet

The other day I helped paint on my friend's graffiti wall.  

What a fun day that was, so relaxing!

What Next...

I previously showed my newest canvas I'm working on.

I started adhering scrap papers and vintage music from a book.

Next I added a paper napkin from OTM's napkin collage pack using semi-gloss gel medium. I then added Golden's light molding paste here and there and   stamped into it to create texture.

Once I add the gel medium I like to spritz it lightly with Platinum Pearl Color Mists to smooth it out and add a light opalescent sheen. Once that dried I white washed it with watered down gesso.

Next I added some color using a make up sponge and Dr Martin's  radiant concentrated colors.  Now I'm letting my muse ruminate some more so stay tuned...

Easter Basket Cake

Easter Basket Cake

I made this from using just the base of my 

Wilton's giant cupcake pan.  I am by no means a 

cake decorator and my purpose for sharing my 

cakes is to show you that don't have to be.

After the base baked and cooled I  I sliced off the top 

to make it level and then scooped out about 

1/4"- 1/2" of cake evenly around the inside.

I was going to try my hand at frosting it by using 

a basket weaving design but was afraid I'd mess

it up so instead I came across a site that showed

how to make it look like basket weaving using

a fork .  They used chocolate ganache where as 

I just used regular frosting.  I know its not as neat 

as the regular basket weave design I think it works 

just fine.  I put a thin layer of frosting inside the 

top and around the opening of the cake edge 

then used a large a  large star decorating tip 

around the top and bottom of the cake.

Next I looked up how to color coconut to 

make the grass for my easter basket cake. 

I used two different colors of green...regular food 

coloring green and McCormick's Neon Green Food 

Coloring. I liked the variety of greens I got by

doing this. I then sprinkled my "grass" into the

center of the cake.

Next I added some of the Easter Egg Cake Pops

I made the day before. I also added some scrapbook 

paper flowers I stuck together with frosting and added 

pink candies for the center.

Spring Cake Pop Bouquet

Cake Pop Bouquet

Yesterday I tried my hand at making 

cake pops. I've seen various ways of 

making them here on the Internet, but it was 

Alisa Burke's Easter Egg Pops that really 

inspired me to try my hand at making some!

What I learned from making my cake pops
is that they aren't as easy as I thought
they would be LOL...I think having a partner
to help you would make it a much easier.

The other thing I did differently then Alisa was to
melt the frosting for about a min in the microwave
just enough to make it slightly pourable which
made it much easier to mix without having to use
your hands.

I tried a Wilton's lollipop Party mold 

and it actually worked well but with 

this particular mold only the cupcake 

actually resembled a cupcake the

others just looked like shapes and 

are hard to tell that they were

actually a party hat and balloon!

Awhile back I blogged about 

scoring these Vintage mini tin molds 

 at the thrift store. I thought they would be 

great to use in my art. I actually did use 

one  in a shrine.  I never really thought I'd 

actually use them in the kitchen, but they 

were perfect size to mold the cake in.

Some of the tins I sprayed lightly with Pam 

cooking spray and then did some without 

the Pam and they definitely came out easier 

with the Pam. 

Another thing I did differently then Alisa was to lay my 

pops on wax paper once I had sprinkled them since 

I didn't have a colander with holes big enough to fit 

the sticks through.  They looked just fine once they 

hardened and I was able to easily fit them into the 

treat bags. 

The really fun part is using all the

sprinkles, jimmies and colored sugars

they have out now!
